St Kilda have been dealt an injury blow as the club continues it's fight to earn a finals spot, with Josh Battle set to miss the remainder of the 2021 season with a bone stress in his ankle.

After feeling pain in his ankle this week at training, further scans determined the level of significance of the injury.

Battle will now meet with corresponding specialists in the coming days to determine the best outcome for his injury.

The Saints are already dealing with a number of injuries, with Jake Carlisle, Hunter Clark, Jack Higgins, Mason Wood and Nick Coffield some of the notable names missing from St Kilda's lineup.

Saints chief operating officer Simon Lethlean said the injury to Battle is disappointing for the promising swingman and the club as a whole.

"It's a disappointing blow for Josh and the club," Lethlean told AFL.com.au.

"With the depth of our injuries this year, Josh has continued to cover a range of roles for us and we'll miss his versatility and hardness as we head into the pointy end of the season."

"He's a loved member of our group and we'll do everything we can to support him and to get him back on the track as soon as possible."

Battle has played 56 games for the Saints since making his debut in 2017.
