Selected with the 27th pick in the 2000 national draft, Ted Richards went on to play 33 games for Essendon over four seasons, before being traded to Sydney at the end of 2005.

Richards played in Sydney's 2006 grand final loss to the Eagles, before establishing himself as one of their most consistent defenders.

2012 was arguably the defender's best season, as he earned a spot in the All-Australian side, before becoming a premiership player.

He retired at the end of the 2016 season, after 228 games with Sydney, and 261 games in the AFL overall.

Life after football sees Richards as a Director of Business Development at Six Park, which is one of Australia's best investment services.

Richards spoke to Zero Hanger during the week, and gave us his tips for the second round of the season.

Richards' Round 2 tips:

Adelaide v Richmond

Tip: Adelaide by 12 points

"The team that loses the grand final has more at stake the next time and plays with a certain level of pride."

North Melbourne v St Kilda

Tip: St Kilda by 24 points

"Both teams will lift for the occasion. St Kilda have more experience which will hold them in good stead."

Carlton v Gold Coast

Tip: Carlton 18 points

"Based on what we saw last week against Richmond, Carlton will take care of Gold Coast at home."

Collingwood v GWS

Tip: GWS by 72 points

"They will put the foot on the throat of Collingwood and it will be a blowout at half time."

Brisbane v Melbourne

Tip: Melbourne by 42 points

"It would have been a tough week for Melbourne players. That somewhat frustration will come out this game and they will want to make a statement on the football world."

Fremantle v Essendon

Tip: Essendon by 18 points

Essendon were lucky to get the win last week. Fremantle will rise to the occasion at their new home but the Dons will still win by a bit."

Western Bulldogs v West Coast

Tip: Bulldogs by 6 points

"I think because of how the Dogs were embarrassed last week and how hard it is for a Western Australian team to travel and win over here."

Sydney v Port Adelaide

Tip: Sydney by 6 points

With Gary Rohan and Dan Hannebery added, the Swans will improve to an already good team and be too strong. That is not a knock on Port."

Geelong v Hawthorn

Tip: Geelong by 21 points

"It will be exciting to see what the Cats do with managing Tom Mitchell. We will be seeing a lot of stars play out there. I love this game."
