North Melbourne rookie Tom Wilkinson has stepped away from the AFL after joining the cast for the next season of The Amazing Race Australia.

Wilkinson will partner up with Paul Roos’ son Tyler, with the pair set to fly out to a secret location on Thursday to begin filming, according to AFL.com.au.

The Kangaroos’ rookie played in North Melbourne’s VFL side on Saturday in his final game for the club, with the Roos going down to Geelong by 102 points.

“Tom has certainly shown an incredible amount of persistence and patience, having to bide his time before getting an opportunity on an AFL list,” North GM football Cameron Joyce told the club’s website.

“He leaves knowing that he achieved his goal to be drafted and knows he left no stone unturned in his pursuit of an AFL career.”

Wilkinson was picked up with the 41st pick in the 2018 Rookie Draft.
