With the future of St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt still up in the air, his manager, Tom Petroro, released a statement to Channel Nine's The Footy Show on Thursday night.
Petroro said in the statement provided that he and Riewoldt are ready to accept whatever news comes their way, regardless of whether it's positive or negative.
"I want to clear this up. There is absolutely no ultimatum. Yes, there is uncertainty [about 2018] and because of the uncertainty, there is no need for a timeline for it to play out to," the statement began.
"If it's over, it's over. Everyone knows where they sit, we have all been in constant dialogue, and when the time is right, it will all be worked out, and everyone is understanding of that.
"Hopefully, the Saints and Nick have a finals series to play."
Journalist Damian Barrett told the show Riewoldt is "desperate" to continue playing in 2018, and is having ongoing discussions with the club and head coach Alan Richardson over his future.
The 34-year-old has played 13 games for the Saints in 2017, and is second on St Kilda's games record tally, with 332 matches over 17 seasons.
Saints veteran Leigh Montagna, along with Riewoldt, is also out-of-contract at season's end, and will be hoping to receive a new one-year deal before the season is out.
