After it was reported this week by Channel Nine's Caroline Wilson on Footy Classified that Richmond and the AFL are at war behind closed doors, Richmond CEO Brendon Gale has squashed those reports.
Speaking this week, Wilson said she believes there is definitely "spite" between the two parties.
“There is no doubt there is a war going on behind closed doors between Richmond and the AFL,” Wilson said.
“I absolutely think there is spite there on both sides.”
In response to the reports while speaking on SEN Breakfast, Gale said Richmond have a strong relationship with the AFL and the suggested report of a rift between the parties isn't accurate.
“Not at all (no ongoing feud),” Gale said.
“I’ve got a very good relationship, we’ve got great respect for the AFL, they’ve got a very tough job.
“They’ve led the COVID (situation) admirably over the last 18 months.
“Our relationships with all the key decision makers are very, very good. We’ll ask questions from time to time as all clubs do.
“I did see that report, I don’t think it’s a fair portrayal of our relationship, it’s a very strong one.”
The reports opened after Tiger coach Damien Hardwick made comments about playing a home game at Marvel Stadium in Round 9 as opposed to the MCG.
Hardwick has also brought up recent free-kick differentials that have gone against his side in recent weeks.
“I loved it, it was really good,” Hardwick said mockingly post-game last week.
“I think it’s a tough game to adjudicate – I think other clubs will get a fair idea on what they are paying for the rest of the weekend.
“It always seems to happen Friday nights. Holding the balls are back in vogue. We’ll see how it goes for the rest of the weekend. It is what is.”
