Sydney is the newest team to enter their name in the battle for Jeremy McGovern this off-season.

It has been revealed by foxfooty.com.au the Swans have a strong desire to add McGovern to their defence and improve on what is already is a tough back six to penetrate.

Along with Sydney, Fremantle and St Kilda have expressed interest in the Eagles' All-Australian defender.

Although there are teams already working on signing McGovern, he has spoken on his preference to stay with Eagles and decided to leave the contract talks to the end of the season.

McGovern's not the only big name the Swans seem interested in as they've been linked with key forward Darcy Moore, who is out of contract with Collingwood at the end of the season.

Unlike Collingwood with Moore, the Eagles can match any offer McGovern chooses to accept from any other team.

Based on previous reports, McGovern is likely to receive a lengthy deal from the West Coast Eagles that other teams may not offer. It looks likely that it's something that would entice the star defender to stay.

“I am probably going to put it (contract talks) on hold I think until the end of the year,” McGovern told Hit 92.9 radio back in May.

“I spoke to my manager (Colin Young) about it and I’m loving my footy at the moment.

“It’s just easier for everyone I think, rather than a running commentary every week. We can just leave it until then. I’m loving my footy with the boys.

“We will reassess it through the bye and at the end of the year we will probably look at it.

“It’s just running commentary every week. Everyone is asking about it. If I just put it off then everyone can get over it and let me play footy.”
