Past off-field distractions could have potentially led to wavering interest in Collingwood's Jordan De Goey as he prepares to enter free-agency, but St Kilda are pushing against the grain and have made their interest in the midfielder known, according to afl.com.au.

This is the final season of De Goey's contract with the Pies and rival clubs are preparing for the 22-year-old to demand $500-$600,000 per year when he signs his next deal.

Collingwood has reportedly been in contact with the former No.5 draft pick's management regarding a contract extension, but there is no word on whether Collingwood are looking to accommodate De Goey for his potential asking price.

St Kilda are looking to rebuild with a young group and recruiting De Goey would be a step in the right direction, fitting their assumed criteria as a young midfielder with untapped potential.

De Goey has hit a few road bumps early on in his young AFL career, not giving him ample time to string a lot of games senior games together before having to take a break.

His return to senior action last week was beneficial for the Pies, logging 15 disposals and a goal to boot, if he is able to be consistent throughout the rest of the season, interest from other AFL clubs will continue to rise.
