With North Melbourne now officially without a senior coach, news.com.au understand the Kangaroos have identified current Sydney coach John Longmire as the perfect replacement for Brad Scott.

Scott's 10-year tenure at North Melbourne came to an end on Sunday, less than 24 hours after his side defeated the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

Despite Scott's hard-lined stance that the decision by the club to release him was a mutual decision, a number of media outlets believe there is tension between Scott and the Roos, which could revolve around their pursuit of Longmire.

Longmire - who played all 200 of his AFL games in the blue and white - is currently contracted until the end of the 2020 season, and reports suggest Sydney has already been made aware of the Roos' interest.

However, The Sunday Telegraph's Jessica Halloran believes the Swans won't let Longmire move south.

“I understand that Swans John Longmire is one of the targets,” Halloran told ABC Offsiders.

“I texted someone at the Swans last night, a very senior figure, and they said to me they could not see why the club would release him if he wanted to go. Which I don’t think he has any intention of doing anyway.”
