The Eagles are preparing to launch a shock bid for Fremantle veteran Aaron Sandilands, as reported by The Australian's senior sports writer Greg Denham.

Denham is reporting that West Coast are looking to cover the loss of star big man, Nic Naianui, who will miss the majority of the 2019 season after suffering an ACL injury.

In addition to Naitanui, West Coast's second ruckman Scott Lycett is out of contract and being heavily courted by rival clubs, including St Kilda and Port Adelaide.

The Eagles have reportedly held "informal talks" within the club regarding recruiting Sanidlands and are "open to dialogue" with his manager Colin Young.

The 35-year old is out of contract at the end of this season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent, but has been held to just 11 games this season after being hampered by injuries.
