Carlton interim coach David Teague is set to make a big decision in his first game as the Blues' caretaker coach, with rookie forward Matt Owies set to make his debut.

According to the Herald Sun, Owies fits the bill of the Blues looking for more pressure inside their forward 50, with the 22-year-old selected in last year's rookie draft.

Owies turned his attention to basketball in Year 9, giving up football in favour of a scholarship to the US to play basketball.

Since debuting for the Northern Blues this season, Owies has impressed in recent weeks, and is on the verge of making his senior debut.

Teague will select his first side on Thursday night, ahead of the Blues' clash with Brisbane on Saturday.
