One of football's most famous families will equal another for most games, combined, between a grandfather, father and son at the highest level this weekend.
Jack Silvagni, playing in his 144th match of AFL football, will take the total amount of games played between him, his famous father Stephen, and Stephen's famous father, Sergio, to 695, a number matched only by the revered Kennedys.
It's the latest, timely reminder of the serendipity and romance attached to the father-son draft concession, and, it's as fitting a time as any to take a stroll down memory lane and appreciate the generational greatness that bonds families - players and fans alike.
***Disclaimer: this list is specific to grandfather-father-son or father-son lineages. Bands of brothers, such as the Danihers and Selwoods, cousins, such as the Riewoldts, and marital bonds, such as the one that famously joined the Tuck and Ablett clans have not been considered as one unit.***
2. Silvagnis
Carlton is a pillar of the code, and subsequently, the Silvagnis, for more than six decades, were a pillar of Carlton.
A tenacious ruck-rover, Sergio played 239 games in the navy blue, winning two premierships and two best and fairests - one coming in the 1968 premiership year.
Stephen, Sergio's son, would then take up the mantle, donning his father's number one guernsey, but in the backline, where he would forge an incredible career - one that culminated in his appointment as the full-back in the AFL's Team of the Century. In 312 games, he mirrored his father's two premierships and two best and fairests, and was a five-time All-Australian.
Jack plays game 144 this weekend, but his first 128 games were in Carlton's famous crest. Never quite reaching the heights of his forebears, the third-generation Blue is still among the league's best swingmen on his day, and is growing into his role in his new colours at St Kilda.
But who could forget his role in Carlton's victory over arch rivals Collingwood just days after Sergio's passing? Special, special stuff.

Close but no cigar for the family matching the Kennedys this weekend!
