Some have had a leg up in terms of the strength of their list, while others have surprised the competition as first-timers.

"I know he's entered the Carlton process now. You think he gets the job.

"He has reinvigorated a football club. This proud football club was on its knees. They were an absolute basket case, going nowhere at a rate of knots. Somehow, he's got them in the Wildcard conversation.

"If they win one of their last two, they'll get there."
