North Melbourne livewire Tarryn Thomas has recommitted to the Roos and will remain at Arden Street until the cessation of the 2024 season.

Thomas' fresh two-year deal comes off the back of a breakout 2021 campaign in which the hybrid threat averaged 17 disposals in each of his 21 appearances.

The former top-10 pick also produced career-best figures in front of goal, with 24 majors in just his third campaign.

In what was a testament to Thomas' rise throughout last winter, the North Launceston product's efforts saw him finish eighth in last season's Syd Barker Medal count.

Speaking in the wake of obtaining the excitement machine's signature, Kangaroos GM of Football Talent Brady Rawlings explained just how pivotal Thomas was to the rebuilding club.

"Tarryn is a very important player for our club and we are delighted to have him commit for a further two years," general manager of football talent Brady Rawlings said.

"He's highly skilled but he also plays with a hard edge. He took his game to the next level in 2021 and we look forward to seeing that progression into this year and beyond.

"To have him commit until at least the end of 2024 is a fantastic result for all parties."

Following pre-season practice matches against Melbourne and Sydney this month, Thomas and North Melbourne will start their campaign proper when they face off against Hawthorn on Sunday, March 20 at the MCG.

Should Thomas remain fit through the early stages of this season, the Sydney-born Shinboner will make his 50th AFL appearance during his side's Round 3 clash with Brisbane.
