Brisbane football director Danny Daly has admitted he believes he has it in him to be a senior coach.
Daly stopped short of fully committing to wanting to coach the Lions in the future, but has been discussed as a potential replacement for Fagan and his comments suggested he would be open to taking the role.
His comments come as scuttlebutt continues to circulate about two-time premiership coach Chris Fagan's future - particularly if the Lions achieve a threepeat.
"Yeah I'd like to think so (I'm a coach in my soul). I'm a bit like 'Fages' in terms of you still battle a little bit with belief and the fact you haven't played the game at the highest level," Daly said on SEN.
"There is a little bit of desire there, yeah, definitely.
"Potentially but that's a decision for the footy club depending on what direction they want to go in.
"I'm not sure what life would be like without 'Fages' there so we might have to decide a few things myself. At the end of the day, it's what's best for the football club - whether that's myself or a Cam Bruce, Dale Morris or getting someone new in.
"That will be their decision and I'm happy with whatever they decide."
"I'd like to think I potentially could be but the way footy's working at the moment, it goes around in roundabouts - there was a stage there where 'Fages' set the trend so let's go for the older guy but now it seems to be about getting young assistant coaches into the role."
Daly has turned down the opportunity to be part of several coaching processes in recent years despite being one of the highest regarded prospective mentors, having been at the Lions since 2014.
He has overseen the footy department during both of the club's premierships.
"One of the greatest qualities I've got is loyalty. It's very hard to leave an organisation going so well and to leave 'Fages'," Daly added.
"We started the journey together and it's been an unbelievable journey so there's a bit about loyalty (which has kept me at the club."
Asked if the result of the game was relevant to Fagan's future, Daly said: "Potentially. At the same time though, at this stage of the year for the last two or three years, when you get to this point, you're pretty cooked after a long season. You're always thinking 'is the time now'...We'll have conversations in the next few days when the dust settles."
