Port Adelaide star Zak Butters has supported the secrecy around the AFL's trade space as transparency around his future draws nearer.
Addressing media ahead of what could be his final showdown, Butters does not believe shifting to an NRL model of openness around player movement is the way to go for the AFL.
"I just don't think it's the right way to go about it," Butters said on Tuesday.
"I feel like the league is probably not quite ready for it.
"You look at the NRL and the chaos that causes with contracts and player movement and whatnot, I'd probably tend to stick away from it."
He stuck to the story he has told all season that a decision would be made at the end of the season, but said even if he had made a decision, he would not publicise it.
"Obviously the rounds are counting down now towards the end of the season, so it gets closer and closer," he said.
"But for mine, nothing has really changed.
"I'll still make my decision at the end of the year and sit down with the club and my manager."
