Port Adelaide recruit Ivan Soldo will be sidelined for the coming weeks, with the Power ruckman requiring an arthroscopy to aid a recent knee issue.

The club confirmed on Thursday morning that Soldo had reported pain in his left knee following last week's loss to Collingwood, with the Power's medical team discovering irritation to a previous lateral meniscus injury that had hampered Soldo in the past.

A decision was made by Port Adelaide to have Soldo undergo a knee cleanout that will ideally accelerate his return to play, with the full extent of the setback to be known following the procedure.

An arthroscope could see a player miss less than a month or potentially multiple months depending on the outcome of the surgery.

Soldo's absence for Round 7 will mean fellow Port Adelaide recruit and ruckman Jordon Sweet will likely lead the charge on Friday night when the Power host St Kilda at Adelaide Oval.

It will be Sweet's second game for the Power and first as their sole recognised ruck option should they decide against naming young tall Dante Visentini.

Coach Ken Hinkley is expected to recall forward Charlie Dixon after he was managed during Round 6, while veteran midfielder Travis Boak is likely to be available following a recent back issue.

The Power will name their 23-man squad on Thursday evening at 6:20pm (AEST).
