A new premier will be crowned in 2018, with players predicting the Tigers won't be able to back up their premiership triumph from last season, according to a survey for the AFL's Players' Top 50 poll.
When asked which clubs will fall down the ladder in 2018, Richmond's name came up the most often, with 34% of those questioned suggesting the Tigers will be the team to fall the hardest back down the ladder.
It sounds as though players believe the Tigers could fall as quickly as they rose in 2017, after Damien Hardwick led the 13th placed Tigers in 2016, to their first premiership in 37 years last September.
The premiers aren't the only top club set to fall according to the players, with the beaten grand finalists, Adelaide, also set to tumble down the ladder.
23% of players suggested the Crows would take the biggest hit to their ladder position, despite picking up star Blue Bryce Gibbs during last season's trade period.
One other club also received a fair portion of the votes, with players believing a spot will be open inside the top eight this season, due to West Coast's demise.
12% of those surveyed suggested the Eagles' drop down the ladder could be the biggest, after a number of star players and veterans called time on their careers last season.
The survey is music to the ears of clubs like Melbourne, Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs, who were on the edge of the eight in 2017, and could be the best placed sides to capitalise should these teams fall away.
