AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan revealed the game's return-to-play plans on Friday afternoon.
Teams will return to to non contact training next Monday, while contact training at clubs will be allowed from May 25.
Adelaide, Port Adelaide, West Coast and Fremantle will begin the season in Gold Coast quarantine hubs for at least four weeks.
The Eagles and Dockers will complete their mini pre-season in Perth before shifting to Queensland, while the Crows and Power will need to move interstate before May 25.
Players will be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.
"Today I want to announce, our AFL competition is returning. From Monday, all clubs will return to training and all AFL clubs will return full contact training on May 25," McLachlan said.
"The competition will resume on June 11. All players are being informed of protocols they need to follow. This will also apply for umpires and key match day staff.
"Today is a significant step for getting footy back for everyone. We know as this situation continues to evolve, we have to remain flexible to adapt. We need to prioritise the health and welfare of everyone.
"Our industry undertakes this opportunity we have been given and accept the responsibility we have been given."
The league is expected unveil fixture details next week.
