North Melbourne is understood to have settled on Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham as its new senior coach.

Graham has been viewed as a leading candidate for the role to replace Alastair Clarkson, with that race narrowing in recent days after Nathan Buckley withdrew.

Former Kangaroos ruck David Hale, Hawthorn's Daniel Giansiracusa and North Melbourne's own Xavier Clarke were also seen to be among the remaining options in consideration.

Now, according to 7 News' Tom Morris, Graham is set to be unveiled as the new coach of North Melbourne as early as this week.

Graham is set to fly back to Melbourne, after interviewing with the club over the weekend, to formalise the appointment.

The Dockers assistant has been with Fremantle since the 2022 AFL season, having moved across town from West Coast after five years.

Graham has stepped into caretaker roles for both the Dockers and Eagles over the years, managing three wins from as many games across small stints in 2018 with West Coast and 2022 with Fremantle.

Graham was recently part of the Carlton and Essendon coaching processes, and was understood to be a well-rated candidate before missing out on the roles to Josh Fraser and Mark McVeigh, respectively.

The imminent appointment of Graham comes after Clarkson was sacked from the senior coaching role at Arden Street after amassing 20 wins from 82 games in charge of the Roos from 2023 to 2026.
