Former Geelong defender Corey Enright has pulled out of the race for North Melbourne's senior coach role.
Enright's decision comes after he left his assistant coach gig at St Kilda to join Geelong as an assistant this off-season.
The 45-year-old has aspirations to become a senior coach one day, but according to The Age, he has taken his name out of consideration for the Roos role.
He has become the third person to pull out of contention after premiership coaches and North Melbourne legends Adam Simpson and John Longmire said they wouldn't push forward with applying for the role.
It has left Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham, Hawthorn assistant Daniel Giansiracusa and former Collingwood coach-now Geelong assistant Nathan Buckley as the leading contenders.
It has been reported that North Melbourne would prefer a first-time coach ahead of a second-timer such as Buckley. This was likely a key factor in Simpson and Longmire withdrawing their names from consideration.
Enright now looms as the likely successor for whenever two-time premiership-winning coach at Geelong Chris Scott calls time on his career at the Cats. The succession role was once what Enright held during his time at St Kilda, ready to take over from Ross Lyon.
The former Cats defender had a glittering career at Geelong. Enright played 332 games, won three premierships, six All-Australians and two best-and-fairests during his time at The Cattery.
