Newly signed Geelong assistant coach Corey Enright has met with North Melbourne general manager of football Todd Viney regarding the vacant senior coach role for 2027.
Enright recently moved from St Kilda, where he was expected to take over Ross Lyon in a succession plan in the coming years, to Geelong in the past week. But the 45-year-old has been open in his desire to become a senior coach and is considering applying for the vacant Roos role.
Seven is reporting that Enright met with Viney at a cafe in North Melbourne on Thursday morning as the Roos canvasses potential candidates for the role.
North Melbourne is on the hunt for a new head honcho after the club sacked former coach Alastair Clarkson at the start of September with one year remaining on his contract.
The Roos have an extensive coach selection panel with CEO Jennifer Watt (chair), Viney, club director and former captain Andrew Swallow, senior AFLW coach and premiership player Darren Crocker, vice-president Nick Dowling and recently retired Collingwood player Steele Sidebottom taking part.
Experienced coaching pair with strong connections to North Melbourne Adam Simpson and John Longmire have taken their names out of the running in recent weeks.
The reasoning seems to be that the club is keen for a first time coach to take the reins.
Enright, Fremantle assistant coach Jaymie Graham and Geelong assistant coach Nathan Buckley appear to be the early front runners for the job.
The Kangaroos recently met with Buckley, who is determining if he'll push for the role.
