North Melbourne has locked away two of its promising prospects to new deals, with Matt Whitlock (2027) and Robert Hansen Jr (2026) penning extensions.

Whitlock, who was already contracted for next year as per his initial player contract, has impressed in the very few months he's been at Arden Street, adding another season at the club.

The Kangaroos traded out their 2025 first-round selection for Richmond's second-round pick in last year's draft to secure the utility, who was eventually taken with Pick 27.

Whitlock featured for the Murray Bushrangers in his U18 year, and made an early season debut against Sydney in Round 4. He gathered 10 disposals and three marks before he was subbed out with an ankle injury.

He returned in the VFL this week.

"Matt has stood out to us with his athleticism, clean hands and ability to play at both ends of the ground," North Melbourne head of football talent Brady Rawling said.

"For him to make his AFL debut as a key position player at just 18 is a testament to the great progress he's already made during his short time at the club."

Joining Whitlock in re-signing at North Melbourne is small forward Hansen Jr., who has added another four AFL outings this year.

The 21-year-old was drafted in the 2023 Mid-Season Draft with Pick 2, and has been forced to bide his time before getting opportunities.

Hansen Jr. played two games in his maiden campaign, before adding another six last year. His start to 2025 has provided hope for the Kangaroos that he's equipped for the rigours of AFL football.

"Robbie has also taken some strides forward during his time at the club and showed he can bring a spark to our forward line with his speed," Rawlings said.

"We look forward to watching both players continue their development."

The pair of extensions follow the recent re-signings of star midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke (2032) and project ruckman Taylor Goad (2028).
