Nic Newman has been charged with striking Brisbane's Lachie Neale by the MRO, handed a one-week suspension.

The third term incident, which drew plenty of attention on and off the field, was graded by the MRO as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact.

Vision from the Friday night clash shows the Carlton defender catching Neale high, with his elbow appearing to strike his jaw.

Newman's one-week ban will see him unable to play in Carlton's Round 9 clash against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

The Blues, who lost by 26 points on Friday night, now head into the Bulldogs clash with a 4-3-1 record.

The match review findings for Saturday's action will be released on Sunday.
