Carlton captain Marc Murphy says teammate Dale Thomas will prove his critics wrong in 2016.

Thomas has been heavily criticised in recent weeks, with former North Melbourne star David King stating his kicking is not up to AFL standard, while Richmond legend Kevin Bartlett questioned whether the former Collingwood premiership player is even in Carlton's best 22.

However, Thomas received perhaps one of the mot important endorsements he can hope for heading into the 2016 season. Captain Marc Murphy has thrown his support behind his embattled teammate, stating that he will "prove a lot of people wrong" this season.

“I don’t understand why he’s the whipping boy as much as what he is,” Murphy said.

“He missed a couple of kicks that he’d like to have back, but it’s a couple of kicks and it’s the NAB Challenge. I think we’ve seen a lot of blokes in this NAB Challenge series miss kicks.

“I think just because it’s Daisy Thomas they just feel like getting stuck into him, but the way he’s training and the way his body looks and the condition he’s in, I think he’s set to prove a lot of people wrong,” Murphy said.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way he’s been training and the boys and coaches are right behind him and you’ll see a really good Daisy Thomas this year.”
