The Match Review Officer has handed Greater Western Sydney's Joe Fonti a one-match ban for rough conduct on Sydney star Isaac Heeney.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter and was deemed careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, resulting in a one-game suspension.

Greater Western Sydney has until 11 am on Monday to decide whether or not the club appeals the ban.

Veteran Giant Jake Stringer received a $3,000 fine, which can be reduced to $2,000 with an early plea, for striking Sydney's Justin McInerney in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, McInerney will have to pay a $1,500 fine for making an obscene gesture in the second quarter, with the fine reduced to $1,000 with an early plea.

Fonti, a 189cm defender, has played 28 games for the Giants since being drafted with pick 44 in the 2023 draft.

Despite a gallant effort from Greater Western Sydney, its arch-rivals Sydney won the derby comfortably in the end by 41 points.

The match was disrupted by bad weather and lightning, with the two teams forced to remain in the sheds for an extended period of time during the main break. This is the second time Greater Western Sydney has had a lightning interrupted match this season after it also occurred against St Kilda at ENGIE Stadium in Round 2.
