Former Geelong great Cameron Mooney has highlighted the club's pressure inside 50 as a key reason for their resurgence this season.
The Cats are undefeated through the opening two rounds to sit on top of the ladder, defeating flag fancies Collingwood and Melbourne.
And Mooney is beginning to recognise traits in this current Geelong side that he hasn't seen since his playing days.
“They’ve got a really tough draw, so for them to get a couple of wins straight away, I’m pretty confident with how they’re going at the moment,” Mooney told SEN SA Breakfast.
“Their forward line, and I think it’s been touched on a bit by everybody, their forward line pressure is something they haven’t had for a long, long time.
“Going back to the days when I was playing and you had Shannon Byrnes, Mat Stokes, Travis Varcoe and these kinds of guys.
“They’re putting enormous pressure on right now, which they haven’t done for a long time.”
Mooney praised the club's off-season recruiting scheme, bringing in the likes of Gary Rohan and Luke Dahlhaus as pressure forwards.
“Bringing in Gary Rohan, everyone’s starting to understand he won’t be your 15-20 possession guy,” Mooney said.
“He’s only going to give you 10 possessions, but some weeks he’ll give you three goals and others he might give you six tackles.
“Luke Dahlhaus and Gryan Miers and Tommy Atkins, these guys are putting the pressure on and it’s something they haven’t seen for a while.”
The Cats travel to Adelaide this Thursday night to face the Crows.
