Former Carlton and Brisbane coach Michael Voss has revealed he won't take up a role at an AFL club for 2027.
The 51-year-old has been involved in AFL clubland since he was recruited to the Brisbane Bears back in 1992.
Speaking on AFL Trade Radio, Voss said after being let go by Carlton mid-way through the 2026 season, he is keen for some fresh air.
"I won't be at a club next year. Where that takes me next, I'm not too sure," Voss said.
"There's certainly been a lot of conversations between me finishing at Carlton and now. Some of it is just taking my time, having coffees with people, finding out where my next passion is. I'm 51 years of age; the next decision is a big one for me.
"What I have come to the conclusion of, and I have spoken to a few clubs about, is that it feels right for me not to be at a club next year in any sort of role.
"I'd like to be able to step aside and do something else. It's been 35 years in this environment. It's been 35 years in high-performance sport. I've come in and out a couple of times, but largely 35 years of living in the furnace.
"I wouldn't mind what it looks like a little bit outside of that at least for now."
Since Voss was recruited to the Bears at just 17 years of age, he has gone on to play 289 games, been a senior coach for a further 212, while also spending seven years as an assistant coach at Port Adelaide.
Understandably, the pressure that came on Voss late in his tenure at Carlton has left the former Brisbane star needing a break from clubland responsibilities.
Voss has remained firmly in the media mix in 2026, picking up roles at Fox Footy and AFL Media.
