Brisbane's No.3 draft pick Hugh McCluggage will be forced to wait to make his debut, with an ankle injury sidelining the exciting midfielder for up to a month.

McCluggage sustained the injury during the Lions' JLT Series match against the Western Bulldogs on Thursday night.

“He went over on his ankle in the first quarter,” Lions Head of Medical Peter Blanch said.

“He pushed through – he was a bit unsteady on it. We’ve had scans done and it’s a bit more damage than we thought.

“Hugh’s going to be out for probably three or four weeks.”

McCluggage will miss the side's first round clash against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium and potentially their round two encounter with Essendon at the Gabba.
