Sydney has left the future of Paddy McCartin in limbo after they chose not to bring the former No.1 pick onboard through the help of the rookie draft last week.

According to The Age's Peter Ryan, the Swans made the decision after they were able to snap up tall forward Logan McDonald at pick four in the national draft, much to their own surprise.

The Swans didn't want to make any promises to McCartin, and made it clear to the 24-year-old that him joining the club depended on their activity in the draft.

However, the club are reportedly open to the idea of the key forward joining their VFL and East Coast side, but will leave the burden of decision to the player himself.

The Tasmanian tall forward spent three years with St Kilda after he was drafted at pick 1 in the 2014 draft.

But his time was marred by multiple concussion injuries, meaning McCartin was only able to play 35 games before he left the Saints and took a hiatus from football as a result of the aforementioned injuries.

Sources close to McCartin say that he will be exploring other avenues, with the supplementary selection period, which commences on the 6th of January, looking to be a way back into the AFL for him.
