Worksafe Victoria is set to investigate the Elijah Hollands situation, placing further heat on Carlton's handling of the situation.

After assessing the available and known evidence, Worksafe has made the decision to seek more information, before determining whether more action needs to be taken.

“WorkSafe is assessing the matter to determine whether any action is required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act,” they said in a statement, via 7News.

Worksafe Victoria is the state's workplace health and safety regulator.

It follows chief executive Graeme Wright stating on Sunday that the club had not been contacted by Worksafe.

On Monday night, Carlton has confirmed Hollands was on admitted to hospital, releasing a statement.

"While the club acknowledges the public's interest, it again asks that the privacy of Elijah and his family be respected," it read.

"The request for privacy extends to the media to please not report or speculate on Hollands' location and private health information."

It comes after what Carlton believes was a mental health episode in Thursday night's clash with Collingwood.

On Sunday, the club ruled Hollands out of Saturday night's clash with Fremantle.

Hollands looked disorientated and out of sorts in the loss to Collingwood, sparking concerns for his welfare.

He had only one disposal in 60 per cent of game time, looking out of place in the contest and raising questions about Carlton's treatment of him.

The Blues are investigating, with the AFL and AFL Players' Association keeping a close eye on proceedings. The heat is on the Blues for answers.

Hollands has in the past spoken about struggles with alcohol and anxiety.

Collingwood's Brayden Maynard, who played against Hollands on Thursday, said he didn't pay much attention to it, but noted that if he saw a teammate in that space, he'd "definitely say something to the hierarchy".

"I wasn't aware of what was going on, but I think there was a bit of chatter happening and I didn't pay much attention to it at all and if I did, I definitely would have said something," Maynard said.

"I overheard a few things, but as I said, I was too focused on the game to really understand what was actually going on.

"He was definitely around the area and people were chatting about it, but I was focused on playing the game and if I did notice something myself with Elijah I would have said something, but I was too focused on the game and I can understand why it's such a big topic."
