Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd has revealed the five best deliverers of the bump during his time in footy.

The hip and shoulder remains one of the game's fiercest skills and a key part of its culture despite mellowing down from the rough crunches from yesteryear.

Speaking on AFL.com.auLloyd explained that his former coach Kevin Sheedy demanded a hard edge from his players, including their tackling skills and ability to execute the bump.

Lloyd counted down from 5-1…

3. Dermott Brereton

Lloyd said: "Dermott executed the bump as well as about anybody could. He got nice and low and would hit players in the perfect position. Derm copped as many as he gave out. We saw in the 1989 Grand Final they went after Derm because of that reason. Derm could charge off the line at centre half forward. He knew he could hurt someone in a fair way for his team."
