Carlton skipper Marc Murphy has addressed growing speculation that he may leave the club at the end of the season when he becomes a free agent.

The 30-year old spoke to Triple M prior to his club's 57-point loss to Fremantle at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

"I had a good week last week in the bye period, just went up to Byron Bay and got away for a bit and did some thinking," Murphy told Triple M.

"I actually haven't caught up with my manager this week, so we've pencilled that in for early next week and we'll make a call on that pretty soon."

Asked if he had set a timeline on when he would decide his playing future Murphy said: "Not really. I've just been more frustrated with being injured and missing a lot of football, and wanting to be out there and leading the boys.

"Last week was a good chance to get away with my family and have a chat about a few things and what's really important to us.

"I haven't put a timeframe on it but I'll talk to my manager probably next week at some point."

The star midfielder is currently sidelined with a foot injury, but he said his rehab is going well and expects to return to the field soon.

"Yeah its going pretty well at the moment, I had a big session this morning with Sammy Docherty. Been running for the last two weeks, out on the ground this week.

"So next week hopefully filter back into some training and skills with the boys. Still thinking two to three (away) at the moment."
