Mich Malthouse has expressed his interest in training the 12 banned players still on Essendon's list to help them prepare for the 2017 season.

Malthouse told SEN radio on Wednesday morning that if they players do not train together under a coach or fitness trainer, they will fall behind and struggle when they return to AFL football in 2017.

“We’ve seen with Ahmed Saad who trained by himself and really didn’t have any impact when he came back and I think the isolation had a massive affect on his ability to pick up the game again," Malthouse said.

“The lads that have been suspended here, they can’t think that training by themselves is going to be the answer.”

The Herald Sun has reported that Malthouse, who is contract to appear on this season's edition of The Recruit, and his fitness assistant David Buttifant want over $1 million to train the players.

Former Essendon chairman Paul Little is said to be interested in funding the training.

  1. Exactly what I thought. I hate him more than ever now. What character does the game produce beyond selfishness and greediness?
