SEN’s Garry Lyon has started a war of words with Scott Pendlebury, sending a firm message to the Collingwood captain regarding media scrutiny on players.

Pendlebury, speaking on his Jock and Journo podcast earlier this week, slammed Lyon over comments he made about Demons ruckman Max Gawn.

“You don’t know what players are dealing with,” Pendlebury told listeners.

“Max Gawn got absolutely hammered (by the media) for that game on the weekend, find out today that he was in hospital before the game.”

“He got absolutely smashed, Garry Lyon was giving it to him, saying it’s as poor as it’s been, highlighting efforts and acts.

“I think you’ve just got to be a little more careful about how aggressive you attack players all the time.”

Lyon hit back at Pendlebury on SEN Breakfast on Friday morning, arguing that there needs to be more transparency with he media from players.

“The irony in this as a footballer doing a media podcast talking about the media,” he said.

“Come on Scott.

“When you start being honest about your own opinion and come up and tell us before the game starts and say ‘Okay, I know you blokes are going to pass judgement on us but beware of this, I’ve got a crook back and haven’t trained for four weeks’, we’ll judge you in the way you play and perform.

“You run over the line and we’ll judge you, champ.”
