Essendon great Tim Watson deems North Melbourne as having "no chance" of landing John Longmire as coach next year.

Longmire has a history with the Roos, playing 200 games for them between 1988-1999, who is touted as a potential replacement for the recently departed Brad Scott.

He was a part of the Premiership success in 1999 and contributed heavily in the goal scoring department alongside AFL legend Wayne Carey.

Essendon great Tim Watson believes that he won't be at the helm in Arden Street next season.

“I would think that he is their number one priority,” the Essendon great told SEN Breakfast.

“But if you’re asking me whether or not he’s going to jump at that, I’m saying he’s got absolutely no chance of coaching North Melbourne next year. He’ll stay in Sydney.”

Channel 7's Tom Browne has reported that North Melbourne could potentially offer Longmire a $1.2 million per-season contract over five years.

Longmire is contracted to the Swans until the end of 2020 where he should notch up his 200th game as coach late next year.

Longmire has been successful in his position as head coach of the Sydney Swans since taking over from Paul Roos at the end of 2010.

Of his 173 games as coach, Longmire has won 117 of those including the 2012 Premiership against the Hawks.
