Football powerhouse Keilor has apologised for inappropriate comments in an internal newsletter.
The comments were written in a memo to members circulated via email, with the club sending a follow-up email hours later apologising.
This masthead has chosen not to publish the comments, which referenced the conflict in the Middle East.
It's understood the email was written by a long-time supporter of the club who regularly performs the role in a voluntary capacity.
“Dear all, we would like to sincerely apologise for the previous email that was circulated, which may have caused offence or upset to some members of the community,” the email, sighted by this masthead, read.
“The message was intended in jest and as lighthearted banter, however we fully acknowledge and understand that it may not have been received that way by everyone. We also acknowledge that the email was not sanctioned by the club prior to being distributed.
“Regardless of the intent, we understand that offence may have been taken and we regret any harm or discomfort caused.
“As a club, we take this feedback seriously and will be reviewing our internal processes and communication procedures to ensure greater oversight and consideration is applied to future emails and communications.
“Thankyou for your understanding and ongoing support of the club.”
It comes after the Sydney Swans were forced to apologise for removing reference to the Jewish community in the club's tribute to the Bondi terrorist attack in Opening Round.
Asked about the AFL's relationship with the Jewish community in the weeks following, chief operating officer Tom Harley said: “I think the key part, and this is a great backdrop to have this conversation, is continuing to listen and learn. That community is hurting, we lean in and stand beside them and listen and learn.”
Keilor was last year stripped of its 2023 premiership for a salary cap breach.
Several different stakeholders have been contacted for comment in the past week.
Keilor has yet to reply to the requests and Zero Hanger will continue to seek comment from the club.
