The Brisbane Lions and head coach Chris Fagan have come to terms on a contract extension that will tie him down for a further two years.

It was announced by the Lions on Wednesday that Fagan, who was out of contract at the end of this season, will be on board until the end of 2023.

Since his appointment as head coach at the end of 2016, Fagan has taken the Lions from wooden spooners in 2017 to a preliminary final in 2020.

Despite the fact that Brisbane fell to Geelong mightily close at the penultimate hurdle, Fagan said that the club will continue to improve in 2021.

โ€œI love the fact that at the Brisbane Lions we are all in this together, everyone at the club shares the same drive to constantly improve,โ€ he said.

โ€œIt is why I know the preliminary final loss last year, while disappointing, is also viewed as a growth opportunity.

โ€œThat is what we have been doing since the day I arrived here, seeing each experience as something to learn from.

โ€œAnd Iโ€™m excited to have committed to the Club for a few more years to see where that desire to improve can take us.โ€

Lions CEO Greg Swann said that he was ecstatic about locking away Faganโ€™s services.

โ€œHe is a terrific coach who has made a huge impact in his time here and is a great ambassador for our club and our code here in Queensland,โ€ he said.

โ€œIt was a no brainer for usโ€ฆ He is revered and respected by the players and loved by the fans.โ€
