Carlton defender Alex Silvagni will miss the next month of football due to bone bruising in his knee.

The 29-year-old, who returned last weekend for his first game in a month due an injury in the same knee, landed awkwardly during the side's loss to the Bulldogs last weekend.

AFL.com.au reports Silvagni has escaped serious injury, but is still expected to miss around four weeks.

Meanwhile, young Blues forward Patrick Kerr's season is over after succumbing to a hip injury.

He will undergo surgery next week and is expected to be fit for the start of the side's 2018 pre-season campaign.
