West Coast Eagles star forward Josh Kennedy has pushed back his expected return from injury once again, announcing to 6PR that he should be back by "round four or five."

The 30-year-old underwent ankle surgery back in December and initially seeked to take the field in the Eagles season opener against Sydney, but was pushed back after he had a minor knee operation to remove a bone fragment.

Following the minor surgery, Kennedy aimed to return by round three or four, but now he has revealed he might need another week to find full fitness.

"I'm hoping round four or five now," Kennedy told 6PR.

The two-time Coleman medalist has been back at training with the team and says he has been moving well.

"I've been running the last two sessions and I'm in full training today with the boys," he said.

"But because it put me back a week-and-a-bit having that (knee) surgery we're looking at round four, round five now."

His training went without any apparent issues in his ankle or knee as he underwent all the regular training exercises.

If he is planning to sit until round five, his return would come against Carlton at the MCG.

However, according to theage.com.au his return might wait an extra week after that for the Derby showdown between West Coast and Fremantle at the new Optus Stadium.
