Two-time All-Australian David King believes Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin should consider leaving star midfielder Clayton Oliver up forward for longer periods of the game.

Speaking on SEN, King said keeping Oliver forward may help launch the Demons through September.

"I’m telling you this guy, he threatens to just steamroll a finals series," King said.

"Oliver as a split 50-50 midfielder-forward, they’ve got enough midfielders Melbourne, keep the guy forward.”

Oliver took six marks inside 50 on Sunday as the Demons belted Gold Coast by 96 points at the MCG and King believes the Demons are hitting their strides.

“I love what Simon Goodwin is doing. They’re peaking at the right time, Melbourne.

“Look out, the Dees are coming. I can’t wait to see this finals series unfold.”

Melbourne has not played finals since 2006 and has won two wooden spoons since that time.
