Joel Selwood was spotted on crutches on Saturday morning in Geelong, but told Fox Sports News he is hopeful of facing Richmond in seven days time.

Selwood had to be helped off the ground by trainers in the second quarter after injuring his lower leg, but returned after half-time and started the third quarter on the ground.

The same leg was then caught under a tackle by Lance Franklin in the third quarter, which then saw Selwood struggle to compete in the minutes afterwards, before sitting out most of the final term.

“It’s sore, just as we probably thought it would be,” Selwood told Fox Sports News on Saturday morning.

“We’ll have some scans and see how it comes up.

“The second one I probably felt a little bit more, I tried to get out for the early bit of the last quarter and just couldn’t get it going so I decided to call it a night.”

Selwood didn't place a timeframe on his potential return, but did suggest Dr Peter Larkins' assessment on Friday night wasn't accurate.

Larkins said Selwood could miss around three weeks with the injury, but the Geelong captain didn't believe that would be the case.

“I didn’t see Doc Larkins at all last night so I’m not sure how he could come to that, he hadn’t seen it at all. We hadn’t had it scanned at that stage so we’ll just have to wait and see," Selwood said.

“(I’m) definitely hopeful, obviously non-weight bearing for the weekend and it’s amazing how they can come up.”
