Collingwood has confirmed Stephen Symonds has been appointed as the new coach of the Pies' AFLW side.

Symonds comes to Collingwood after three years with the Norwood Football Club in South Australia, as the club's senior women's coach.

Symonds won a premiership with the Redlegs in 2017, and Symonds' name is synonymous with the AFLW system, with 48 current players working under Symonds in his coaching programs over their career.

“Stephen’s extensive experience in senior performance football impressed the panel right from the start,” Collingwood General Manager of Women’s Sport Jane Woodlands-Thompson told the club's website.

“Stephen has an impeccable record in developing pre-elite programs and has demonstrated his ability to create and fast-track programs to success.

“We’re really looking forward to having Stephen join and lead our AFLW on-field operations and share in what is expected to be an exciting 2020 campaign.”

Symonds will join the club in a fortnight's time.
