Hawthorn forward Nick Watson says he is the "unlucky one" that wasn't rewarded with a holding-the-ball free kick when he mowed down Collingwood's Billy Frampton in Thursday night's draw.

In the final term, Watson sprinted past Pies defender to apply pressure to Frampton, before wrapping him up in a perfectly executed tackle that should've resulted in a shot on goal.

Frampton not only turned when he gathered the ball, constituting prior opportunity, but he also disposed of the football illegally, prompting Watson and the Hawthorn faithful to question what the umpire saw, and didn't see.

"Now looking back on it yes, I felt it should," he told Nova 100.

"I feel like it gets paid every other game and 99 times out of 100 and I am just the unlucky one."

The missed call follows a sleuth of questionable calls on the night, with 49 free kicks paid throughout the pressure-filled contest.

The AFL average is 37.8 per game.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae noted that a lot of free kicks were paid in the centre ball-up, which was dominated by Hawthorn.
