The Bulldogs have announced that midfielder Tom Liberatore will undergo arthroscopic surgery for a knee injury sustained in Saturday night's win over Carlton.

The 27-year old went down in the second quarter of the Marvel Stadium clash in a non-contact incident and limped off the ground in pain.

But scans have cleared Liberatore of an ACL of ligament injury, instead revealing cartilage damage.

A timeframe on the tough onballer's return will be made after the surgery.

He signed a new two-year deal earlier in the week to remain at Whitten Oval until at least the end of 2021.
