Former Essendon defender Michael Hartley will train with Hawthorn over the next 10 days, in the hope of gaining a contract with the club for the 2020 season.

The Hawks announced the agreement on their website on Monday morning, with the defender to train ahead of the November 28 pre-season draft.

Hartley played 44 games for the Bombers over the past four seasons, but only seven of those came in the last two years.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to continue his career at a third club, after spending two years on Collingwood's list before moving to Essendon.
