Greater Western Sydney recruit Brett Deledio has suffered an injury setback in his first pre-season as a Giant.

Deledio will miss the beginning of the JLT Community Series after sustaining a minor calf strain.

However, the club remains confident he is on track to play round one.

“We’ll be taking a conservative approach to managing Brett’s calf to maximise his availability during the season,” GWS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce told the club's website.

“Brett will maintain his strength program but will have his running loads reduced in the short term as we look to build up his training again over the next three weeks. We expect him to play a role in the later stages of the JLT Community Series."

Deledio suffered a calf injury in round 17 last season, cutting short his 2016 campaign, which proved to be his final season at Punt Road.

The Giants begin their JLT Community Series against West Coast on February 18.
