West Coast veteran Sam Butler has been ruled out of the remainder of the Eagles' clash with the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.

Butler suffered a hamstring injury and went down to the rooms for treatment, before returning to the bench in a jacket with ice on his hamstring.

The 31-year-old returned to the Eagles' line-up for the first time since round 11, and has played eight games for West Coast in 2017.

Eagles teammate Sharrod Wellingham was also ruled out of the game in the final term, after struggling with a leg/hip injury for most of the afternoon.

Wellingham was frequently coming on and off the field during the second half in a bid to get his injury right, but failed to return to the field after leaving the playing ground early in the final quarter.
