The Western Bulldogs have named St Kilda's Chief Operating Officer Ameet Bains as their new CEO for 2018 and beyond.

Bains will begin in December, and will succeed Gary Kent as the club's Chief Executive Officer, after he recently stepped down from the role.

Bulldogs President Peter Gordon told the club's website he was the best man for the job, suggesting the former Saint has all the makings of a strong CEO.

“We had a broad range of well-credentialled candidates for the position, both from inside the AFL industry and from a range of other professions. I’d like to thank them all for their interest,” Gordon told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“We think that Ameet is ideally suited to our Club’s next stage of development, with his mix of legal, commercial, projects and football expertise.”

Bains joined the Saints at the beginning of 2011 as the club's list manager, before working his way up into his current role as St Kilda's COO.

Before entering the football world, Bains was a Lawyer at Minter Ellison, and also worked as the Head of the Legal Department at Toyota Australia.

"I am both honoured and humbled to be appointed as the Club’s CEO," Bains added.

“The Club is well-positioned given its recent premiership success and accompanying commercial growth.

“I look forward to working with a very talented team in building upon this success.”
