Hawthorn president Jeff Kennet has suggested that the Hawks could part ways with four-time premiership coach Alistair Clarkson when his contract expires at the end of 2022.

Kennet's comments came after the Hawks suffered another brutal defeat, this time at the hands of the Demons to the tune of 43 points.

Hawthorn's ball movement and offence have been in the spotlight over the past week as the club has failed to score over 50 points for the third-straight week.

Kennet moved to support the champion coach on Saturday when speaking on 3AW.

“We won’t be sacking Clarko. Clarko won’t be sacking us,” Kennett told 3AW.

“When the time comes he and we will come to an agreed position and I suspect it will be at the end of this contract.”

Clarkson was made aware of Kennett's comments post game and spoke on his future.

“I didn’t even know he’d said anything,” Clarkson said.

“We’ll work our way through that, but it’s hopefully a little while off yet.”

The Hawks slumped to 3-4 after the loss on Sunday and now face an uphill battle to make the finals given the shortened 2020 season.

“There’s no easy fix to this, there’s no magic recipe. It’s just hard work and the wheel will turn,” said Clarkson, whose 14th-placed club are four points off eighth spot.

“Confidence and winning form is only just around the corner, sometimes within a quarter. So that’s what we’ll keep searching for.

“As long as there’s a silver lining and a blue sky for us we’ll continue to search for it.

“We know it’s going to take a ‘roll the sleeves up’ type of mentality to get ourselves back on track.”
