North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has refuted suggestions the Kangaroos are tanking in order to secure the No.1 draft, describing the claims as "absolutely laughable".

The Kangaroos have lost their past seven matches and now sit equal on points with the last placed Lions.

Several pundits suggested following last week's loss to Essendon that the Roos may be considering tanking as the season draws to a close.

However, Scott hit back at the claims, stating the club is doing everything it can to win every game to come this season.

"It has been dismissed because it is absolutely laughable," Scott said.

"In one sense you could get offended because it does question your integrity to an extent, but it has just been so far removed from fact that I don't want to engage too much in it, other than to say it is absolutely untrue.

"We intend to do everything we can to win the next five games of this season and we have always done that."

"In my time we have missed the finals three times and in each of those seasons when we couldn't make the finals, we've won the last game of the year."

Scott also dismissed claims that the club would put players on ice or send some players in for surgery early due to finals being out of the equation.

"We want to win. It's a really slippery slope when you try and think about 'OK, let's be strategic and manage our list for the future' and potentially, as the accusation goes, manipulate potential draft order," he said.

"We want to create a winning culture. That's always what our club has been about and if you look back through our recent history, we have fought really hard. We finished ninth on a few occasions and that's what we want to do for the balance of this season."

North Melbourne will play Brisbane at the Gabba in Round 23, which could decide the wooden spoon.
